Over time, have you or your child been spending much more time thinking about playing video game, learning about video-game playing, or planning the next opportunity to play?

Do you or your child spend more and more time and/or money on video games in order to feel the same amount of excitement?

Those are two sample symptoms of video game addiction according to a study reported in Gentile 2009 Psychological Science.

There were 11 similar questions in their study as reported in the paper. If your answer is "Yes" to 6 or more of those questions, you are classified as a pathological gamer (video game addict) according to the criterion of that particular study.

Those 11 symptom-related questions are put into the survey on the right side of this page.

Who Should be Concerned?

If you are a parent of a teen, it's almost certain that you are a parent of a video game player. Almost all (97%) teens play video game, as revealed in a study by Pew Internet Project in 2008.

If the 2009 National Study on video game addiction in America youth is valid, then about 8.5% of America youth is addicted to video game.

I think every parent of young kid(s) should be aware of this issue.

On the other hand, video game addiction is not limited to youth. For one of the most popular MMORPG game "World of Warcraft", statistics have shown that players spend in average 22.7 hours playing the game and the average age of player is 28.3.

We are facing challenges and maybe opportunies given by this prevalent form of entertainment in digital age. How does video game affect the daily life of ours and that of our next generation? Nobody has a comprehensive and definitive answer. Information on this website, mainly collected from around the Internet, hopefully is going to help you to get a better understand of the issue.

"Video game addiction, or more broadly video game overuse, is excessive or compulsive use of computer and video games that interferes with daily life. Instances have been reported in which users play compulsively, isolating themselves from, or from other forms of, social contact and focusing almost entirely on in-game achievements rather than broader life events."
